New Years Eve 2033

(This project was a group project I was responsible for the technical drawings and layout)

It is they year 2033; the sea levels have risen by 5 meters flooding the wharf area of
circular quay, forcing the New Years Eve celebrations to be held on the Cahill
Expressway. The city of Sydney has become a dystopia, the heat and unnatural world
has depressed the people of Sydney, leaving the city with little life and joy. It is almost
New Years Eve a time to celebrate a new year, a time to start over.

Hosted by Saint Germain the New Years Eve celebration invites 100 VIPS to enjoy a
night away from the concrete city and to forget all the issues plaguing their minds. The
natural theme and design takes all its VIPS to a time where the world was a more
enjoyable place. Nature takes over that area of the city, bringing a newfound sense of
life to the space and its guests. The theme of the party is based from the years of the
1920’s, where carefree fun and style ran rampant.

The Design

Polaroid Pop Up Store

The Polaroid Pop Store is a great place to come with your family and friends to make memories and share life. The interior contains slidable cardboard cut outs in which the user creates their own scene. Once you get your scene prepared you can take home a small Polaroid photo leaving you with positive memories of your experience with Polaroid.

To busy to come in the outside of the store is designed so that you can use your phone to get a photo of you and your friends out side the store, but why not spare a few moments to come inside and get your own Polaroid photo.

Maze Design

This design was inspired by pollution, excessive usage of power, and generally how individuals in the don't escape the busy city to see the beauty of our natural world. Which wont be here forever due to our negligent choices and decisions when regarding the environment.

The main purpose of my maze was to allow city siders to escape the busy city and relax in the natural oasis I have created. Following along with the theme of our destruction. Slowly as the maze is used more often and comes into more contact with people, it deteriorates eventually leaving a cement structured cityscape that blends into its environment.

Its aim is to make individuals consider their actions and attempting to increase awareness about our ephemeral and precious environment and how we must take care of it.

This is a video conveying visually how the maze would be designed and how it would deteriroate.

Notes on Design and Materiality Decisions

·      Shipping container as a shelter allows for reuse of materials, relatively cheap to purchase and re-design, easily insulated and easily moved to location

·      Minimalistic modern design allows for increased efficiency of the space and the simplistic interior allows the user to design interior as they please. White is neutral colour which acts as a canvas to be decorated

·      As apart of effectively using space I have designed operable walls that fold in a concertina fold structure this was the best type of design to maximise space. The wall compartments in which the walls fold back into have extra space acting as a cupboard. Wooden flooring allows for easy insertion of operable floor runners.

·      There is a lot of open space, the reason for this design is;
-    The size of windows opens up the room
-  It also creates a sense of connectedness with the exterior environment
-   There is a lowered need for electricity and the room will remain light for most of the day, there will be blinds included to shut off the space, but these will still allow light into the room.
-       The corner of shut off space with no windows creates a sense of prospect refuge the user doesn’t feel completely exposed to the outside world, the blinds will also increase the sense of safety if the user feels too exposed.
-       The sliding doors were chosen as they do not intrude into the space and they allow for increased light intake
-       The glass used will be double glazed to ensure good temperature control within the space
